Doc Ock's Un-Super head

In the film Spider-man 2, Dr. Octopus does not have a super human physique beyond his mechanical additions. The writer makes no attempt to explain the unbelievable durability of his flesh when Spider-man pummels his head during a fight scene. By comparison, I doubt a man devoted to science, and a smoker no less, would be able to withstand several blows from your average, run-of-the-mill master of TaeKwon-Do, let alone a guy capable of doing what Spider-man had already done on screen. If nothing else, Doc Ock should have deflected the blows with his ultra-quick metal appendages.

Not that it matters in a discussion of the film, but I never read the comics, so I made use of Wikipedia to see if I could find mention of the doctor's surprisingly stout head in print. No such luck. You can look for yourself.
